March Madness Pool Dive Lessons w/ Ocean Sports Dive Shop at Lompoc Aquatic Center

It's been a great month full of pool lessons for us at Ocean Sports Dive Shop. We've been really excited to start teaching so many different groups of people how to dive over at the Aquatic Center in Lompoc. We've been having a lot of fun with each and every student, starting with their classroom sessions through both of their pool lessons and now ready to go out to the Channel Islands for their Open Water dives off of our private Dive Boat out of Santa Barbara Harbor! It's such an amazing experience getting SCUBA Certified and we're so happy to be able to do that for so many eager student divers of all ages!

GREEN Abalone SHELL for St. Patrick's DAY

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!!! Here's a little GREEN (polished & dyed) Abalone perfect for today. But ONLY take RED Abalone during the season that opens on APRIL 1st!! We are all getting excited for the start of Ab season so as the VERY Responsible Dive Shop we are I'm going to list the basic rules & regulations for you all :) 

1) Abalone may be taken by FREEDIVERS ONLY (no SCUBA), North of San Francisco Bay.

2) No more than 3 RED Abalone may be possessed by one person at any time!!
3) Abalone must measure 7 inches or greater along the longest shell diameter. And every person while taking Abalone must carry an Ab gauge that accurately measures 7 in.

4) The season is OPEN during the months of April, May, June, AUGUST, September, October, and November from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

5) If freediving for the abs you need to have BOTH a Fishing License AND an Abalone Report Punch Card and TAG your abs immediately upon returning to your boat or shore!!

Our first group Dive Trip to the Isthmus on Catalina Island, CA, USA! Dive Travel & Underwater Photography Fun!

  

     Shaun and I were recently named new management of Ocean Sports' Dive Shop of Lompoc, and our first act as such was planning a Group Dive Trip to Catalina Island!! It was this last weekend, Nov 13th-15th, that we took a group of 14 divers over to our favorite diving oasis in Two Harbors, a diver's paradise this time of year!! Most people from California don't even realize the amazing island adventure that lies only 22 miles off the coast of Los Angeles. We were both fortunate enough to have lived and worked at Two Harbors Dive and Recreation on the West end of Catalina for several seasons getting to know the Island and its spectacular diving opportunities very well.

     For those who missed out on this awesome dive trip here are a few of the events that were included; kayaking all three days, unlimited shore dives, 2-tank boat dive, snorkeling, buffalo tours, beach activities like horseshoes, bocci ball, bonfires, and night dives for lobster and cozy little camping cabins for some much needed shut-eye. So here are a few photos from the trip to give you a little taste of how fun it was and what gorgeous weather we enjoyed! You'd never guess it was mid November! :)

Thanks for taking a look! And thanks to all our divers and freedivers that came along making our trip an awesome experience for all in the group! :) We were happy to have you all along and enjoyed sharing our little slice of paradise!! :)   ~ Kim and Shaun
